Pelalawan is one of regency in Riau
that have a long history. At the last time it has include of Kampar, then made
unfoldment on october 12 1999. In history Pelalawan is a kingdom, the name of
kingdom is Pekantua that founding by maharaja indra (1380 M). On 1459 occured
agression from melaka that coundacting by sri nara diraja to take dominance of
the land. Defeat can not to avoid, melaka succed to get the land. On 1505
pekantua changed to Pekantua kampar, and Islam developed at the time. On 1720
center of kingdom moved near to rasau river and name of kingdom also changed
become Pelalawan, the meaning of
Pelalawan is a place that has reseve.
At the last time, Pelalawan society
devided two kind of ethnic. The ethnic are malay pesisir and malay petalangan.
But, developed of Pelalawan also influential of society, now not only two kind
of ethnic live there, societies from the other places such as; from west
sumatra, north sumatra, java and aceh. First time Pelalawan only has 4
subdistrict are; langgam, pangkalan kerinci, kuala kampar and teluk meranti.
Now Pelalawan have 13 subdistrict; pangkalan kerinci, langgam, pangkalan kuras,
pangkalan lesung, bandar sekijang, bunut, ukui, sorek, teluk meranti, kuala
kampar, kerumutan, bandar petalangan, and pelalawan.
Pelalawan has a large region, so
alot of culture and alot of assets of nature, such as: kind of plant ( Meranti,
punak, perupuk, nipah, rengas, and pandan ), kond of animals (harimau sumatra,
harimau dahan, beruang madu, enggang, monyet, kuntul putih, ikan arwana, owa,
and itik liar ). Plants and animals wake up y marga satwa park in Pelalawan.
And alot of culture like art ( traditional poetry, bidan), traditional dance
(zapin, belian, silat payung ), music ( gambus, kompang, gendang, nafiri,
ketobang, and gambang ) and hand made ( anyaman pandan, bambu, and sulaman ).
